CommScope, Power & Tel pair on custom telco cabinets

June 12, 2006
June 12, 2006 -- CommScope is providing wired cabinets to Power & Tel based on end-user specifications. Power & Tel is then responsible for the integration of electronic kits and other third party materials, and for testing each cabinet.

CommScope recently announced an agreement with telecommunications products distributor Power & Tel to provide the telco market with "fully integrated" cabinet products with improved lead times.

According to a press release, CommScope is providing wired cabinets to Power & Tel based on end-user specifications. Power & Tel is then responsible for the integration of electronic kits and other third party materials, and for testing each cabinet. Through its nine U.S. distribution facilities, Power & Tel is expected to sell the integrated cabinets primarily to its customer base, which includes the markets for independent operating companies (IOC), competitive local exchange carriers (CLEC), and incumbent local exchange carriers (ILEC).

CommScope and Power & Tel contend that, with the increased deployment of video, voice, data, and wireless applications that are driving growth in the telco market, both companies saw an opportunity to provide customers with faster and more flexible ways to obtain custom cabinet solutions.

"This agreement combines CommScope's high quality, environmentally secure cabinets with Power & Tel's expertise to perform equipment integration, wiring and testing of each cabinet solution," says Ted Hally, executive vice president and general manager of CommScope's carrier business unit. "We are excited about our joint capability of providing our telco customers with value-added cabinet solutions and services."

Since March 2006, CommScope has been supplying Power & Tel with its 50 and 52 Series cabinets, which are wired and include a power shelf. After equipment integration, Power & Tel is authorized to sell and distribute the cabinets within the U.S.
