February 2, 2007 -- The company has added 8- and 16-port switches to its CAT5 KVM line.

February 2, 2007 -- Aten Technology, Inc., a provider of KVM (keyboard/video/mouse) and remote connectivity products for centrally managing servers, network devices and IT infrastructure, has introduced two rack-mount KVM switches designed to eliminate traditional cable management problems while offering extended distance capabilities up to 130 feet from a single-user KVM switch.

The Aten KH1508/KH1516 CAT5 KVM products, available in 8- and 16-port models, employ the company's "daisy chain technology" for access of up to 256 and 512 computers when connected to an additional 31 units. In addition, the KH1508/KH1516 can be expanded for remote management of servers and data center devices when connected to Aten's CN5000 KVM on the company's NET control unit.

The company says its KH1508/KH1516 are designed for small and medium-size server rooms and data centers such as educational environments and government organizations. Both units incorporate the company's CAT5 technology, which is geared specifically to IT administrators who require a cost-effective KVM switch that will not clutter their data installations, according to the company.

The KH1508/KH1516 provide video resolution of 1600 x 1200 resolution when located 100 feet away from the CPU via Cat 5 cable. At 130 feet, the switches provide output of 1280 x 1024. The switches support a range of PC interfaces including PS/2, USB, legacy Sun, Sun USB and serial. Other features include two-level password security and logout features (timed and manual).

The products include a three-year warranty and are priced at $399.95 and $499.95, respectively.
