February 9, 2007 -- IndigoVision's IP Video platform was selected for a 600-camera CCTV surveillance system at the newly expanded Doha International Airport (DIA) in Qatar.

According to a press release, as part of the preparations for DOHA 2006, the 15th Asian Games, DIA expanded its main passenger terminal, added new first and business class lounges and increased the capacity of its cargo facilities. The existing analog CCTV system was replaced with the IndigoVision IP Video platform following an in-depth evaluation of competing technologies by the IT department of QATAR Airways, the managing authority for DIA.

"In our technical evaluation IndigoVision's system scored 87%, well ahead of the other systems tested," comments Sourav Sinha, head of the IT department at Qatar Airways. "We were particularly impressed with IndigoVision's ability to deliver very high quality video with minimal bandwidth, its integration with the access control and alarm systems, and the powerful features of the video management software."

The new system, installed by IndigoVision's local partner Capital Technology WLL, provides security staff with centralized monitoring of the whole airport complex from one control room located in the main passenger terminal, with the farthest camera being located over 3 miles away. In addition, satellite monitoring stations were deployed in the cargo terminal and in the first and business class terminals. In total, 11 operators and 2 supervisors use dual-display workstations running "Control Center," Indigovision's enterprise video and alarm management software.

The software allows operators to monitor live video feeds from any of the 600 cameras and recorded footage from the IndigoVision Networked Video Recorders (NVR). Ten NVRs were been installed at the airport to provide a redundant recording platform that can record in excess of 30 days of video from all cameras at 4CIF 25 fps, via 225 TB of Raid 5 storage. The IP video system allows a Control Center workstation can be located at any point on the network, which enabled the location of further workstations in the DIA CEO's office and with the Qatar Airways security supervisor.

Capital Technology also installed a new access control system that was fully integrated into Control Center to provide full alarm management. IndigoVision notes that the tight integration of alarms with video management in Control Center allows the virtual matrix to be driven by alarm events, e.g. a salvo of cameras can be displayed when an alarm is raised from a given access point.

The 600 cameras are a combination of PTZ and fixed, with each being connected to an IndigoVision 8000 transmitter/receiver module which converts the analog feed to DVD quality full-frame rate digital video for transmission over the newly installed LAN. The company says its advanced compression technology minimizes bandwidth requirements and ensures that the operators' view video that is indistinguishable from analog.

Major investment pays off

Separately, IndigoVision announced that, over the last year, the company "has seen considerable success as a result of a major investment program," which the company says has further enhanced its position as a main supplier of IP video and alarm management systems.

According to the company, in a year's time, the number of its employees has doubled, including the addition of a team of customer support engineers and 11 full-time sales account managers to cover Canada, Latin America and the US.

Further, the company developed a regional operations hub in New Jersey, in order to provide its customers with overnight deliveries from stock, faster service and returns support and, reduced handling costs.

"This recent investment underlines the commitment IndigoVision has to the IP video market," says Oliver Vellacott, IndigoVision's CEO. "Over the last year IndigoVision's sales have more than doubled, and with the expanded team in place and the regional hub on-line, we expect to easily exceed last year's revenue growth in the coming year."
