Neutrik intros low voltage camera/singlemode hybrid cable

October 29, 2008 -- Neutrik has expanded its opticalCON line of pre-assembled mobile field cables to include what the company calls "a camera link set up," dubbed the opticalCON Low Voltage Camera / Single mode Hybrid cable. The pre-terminated cable offering is designed for broadcast applications including touring staging productions, live performances and mobile broadcast studios/trucks.

The Low Voltage Camera / Single mode Hybrid cable is optimized for camera link systems (ENG/SNG), camera adapter systems, camera cranes and powered down converter boxes for broadcast applications where only ELV (Extra Low Voltage, <50 VAC) is required. The company's opticalCON cable connectors are pre-assembled with a choice of six mobile field cables. The range of cables includes rugged hybrid, robust and lightweight mobile field cables with 2 multi- or singlemode fibers, a 4 pole Y-split and a SMPTE cable.

"Our opticalCON product is continually evolving to meet the very latest in our consumer's technology needs," says Jim Cowan, president of Neutrik USA. "Incorporating a low voltage camera cable into our fiber assemblies is another feature that makes opticalCON a robust solution for a variety of applications."

The company contends that its IP65 rated opticalCON system increases the reliability and maximizes the uptime for fiber optic connection systems. While the system is based on a standard optical LC-Duplex connection, the opticalCON technology improves on this original design to ensure a safe and rugged connection. The connector enables up to four copper wires to run power or data signals through. A special SMPTE-version1 has been optimized for broadcast applications, which provides an additional ground-shell contact.

In order to create a simplified installation, one can connect a conventional LC-Duplex connector on the rear of an assembly, which causes the chassis connector to act as a "feed-through." The opticalCON cable connector comes pre-assembled with a choice of three mobile field cables, which can be ordered at custom length.

Neutrik notes that the opticalCON connector also feature a rugged connection, all metal housing and heavy-duty cable retention; use conventional LC connectors, which are easy to clean; and has a Push-Pull locking mechanism. The connector also features an automatic sealing shutter which avoids any transceiver contamination on-site and also helps users avoid vandalism by "protecting" the transceiver. In addition, colored labeling plates are included to identify the fiber mode.
