Molex launches physical layer management platform

August 18, 2009 -- Molex Premise Networks Division has introduced its Advanced Physical Layer Lifecycle Management (APLLM) platform, an integrated set of software, electronics and structured cabling products that enables users to track and manage physical layer and infrastructure investments from planning to stages of design, procurement, installation, moves adds and changes (MAC), and eventual upgrade.

August 18, 2009 -- Molex Premise Networks Division has introduced its Advanced Physical Layer Lifecycle Management (APLLM) platform, an integrated set of software, electronics and structured cabling products that enables users to track and manage physical layer and infrastructure investments from the planning stage through to design, procurement, installation, moves adds and changes (MAC), and eventual upgrade.

The APLLM platform is comprised of three core product groupings: an online component, dubbed INSIGHT; MIIM, a software utility for network management, and traditional data transport products.

INSIGHT is an online information management system for the planning, deployment and management of infrastructures and their connected assets. According to Molex, consisting of three core modules for project control, connectivity management and MAC management, INSIGHT increases visibility, control, automation and collaboration for the management of infrastructure to specified stakeholder groups. Core features include best practice libraries, customized work flows, multi-user permissions and partitioning, and real-time access to information from any global location.

MIIM is described as a comprehensive solution focusing on enhancing network management for the physical layer, network security, asset management, increased productivity, and visibility. In addition to MAC and work order management, the software detects network device connect/disconnects regardless of power or broken cables; smart polling capability provides constant information on all network devices connected to work area outlets. Other MIIM differentiators include centralized management of the channel beyond the wire closet out to remote work areas regardless of LAN topology, guided patching impervious to human error, and collection/reporting/alarming of real time Layer 1 data, registering minimal impact on network resources.
