Digital Lightwave unveils USB probe for fiber connector inspection

The USB FibreVu Probe is a digital video inspection probe for field testing fiber optic connector end faces, and detection/analysis of connector defects.

October 20, 2009 -- Digital Lightwave, Inc., a provider of optical networking test equipment and technology, has introduced its USB FibreVu Probe, a digital video inspection probe for field testing fiber optic connector end faces, and detection/analysis of connector defects.

According to the company, with the USB FibreVu Probe, the user can see the fiber end face magnified on a PC screen or on a Digital Lightwave Network Information Computer’s (NIC) color touchscreen with up to 1500X magnification. Adapter tips are available to support all common connectors used in telecommunications, including LC, SC, ST, FC, MU and more, in both male and female versions to enable testing of both patch cords and bulkhead connections.

(Digital Lightwave's portable NICs are software-based, modular products that integrate multiple of test functions in a single solution, including SONET/SDH/OTN rates from 51 Mbps to 43 Gbps with VCAT, LCAS and GFP, Ethernet 10/100/1000BaseT, GigE, 10GigE, 100BaseFX, Fibre Channel and PDH/T-Carrier testing.)

"Most field test failures can be attributed to dirty connectors," notes Doyle Mills, director of product marketing for Digital Lightwave. "Just a single particle in a fiber connection can cause significant insertion loss and back reflection, sometimes even permanent damage. Visual fiber inspection is the only way to determine if connectors are truly clean before they are mated. Our USB FibreVu Probe provides technicians with fast and reliable, proactive detection of connector defects, saving money and time by reducing downtime, speeding deployment and protecting network components from damage."

The USB FibreVu Probe, along with the entire line of Digital Lightwave network test equipment and technology, will be on display at Supercomm 2009 (www.supercomm2009.com) in Chicago, Oct. 21-23.

These Tower Tech XR cooling towers use evaporative cooling to remove heat generated within the data center by IT equipment. Composite cooling towers are more compact and significantly lighter than metal towers. They arrive at a data center site pre-built.
Data center designers shouldn’t sleep on the benefits of fiberglass construction materials.
