Cable and connector supplier Belden has acquired Telecast Fiber Systems, a provider of fiber optic technology for live entertainment production and broadcast. Financial details were not made public.

Belden's cable and wireless signal transmission and connectivity platforms are expected to dovetail with Telecast's manufacture of fiber-optic systems for TV broadcast production and other video applications.

According to representatives from both companies, the merger is a move toward helping customers capitalize on the ongoing need for mixed copper and fiber connectivity to meet the growing bandwidth demands of live entertainment applications.

The combined companies say they will provide copper-to-fiber architecture to deliver optimal performance in broadcast applications via lighter cable runs, expanded camera performance, and more rapid deployment times.
