AFCOM names data center manager of year finalists

Veteran facilities and IT managers from Chevron, MetLife, and Trinity Information Services have been chosen for their excellence in managing data center operations.

In cooperation with eWeek, AFCOM announced three finalists for its Data Center Manager of the Year award, which will be presented on March 10 during the Data Center World event. The judging panel selected the following three data center managers as finalists from more than 40 nominations received.

  • Michael Greeney, data center facility manager, Chevron
  • Joseph Perillo, vice president of technology operations, MetLife
  • Tom Roberts, facility manager, Trinity Information Services

"Each of these finalists was selected based on their day-after-day efforts, often putting themselves on the line, to keep the ongiong business operations of their companies up and running," commented Jill Eckhouse, AFCOM's chief executive officer. "To do this they had to manage multi-million-dollar budgets, equipment, employees, and technology. Each has been successful in those efforts and proven to be the keys to the success of their data centers and ultimately their entire organizations and we're proud to honor them as outstanding leaders in the data center space."

AFCOM provided information on each finalist's responsibilities and accomplishments.

Greeney has been with Chevron for more than 20 years, and in his current role as data center manager since 2001 when he assumed responsibility for the facilities operations of one of the company's data centers in Houston, TX. His role expanded last April when Chevron reorganized and Greeney also began overseeing the company's second flagship data center at the company's headquarters in San Ramon, CA.

Perillo oversees all aspects of data center operations MetLife's information technology group and is directly responsible for managing two enterprise data centers. He manages relationships with vendors to ensure third-party operational commitments are met. He has been an IT professional for more than 30 years and played an integral role in consolidating data center operations when MetLife acquired two companies and geographically relocated two data centers.

Roberts currently is responsible for the facility and infrastructure readiness of three Trinity corporate data centers as well as 20 hospital-based computer centers. On a daily basis he's evaluating the computer centers' readiness for the continued rollout of common clinical, financial, and supply-chain applications in all of Trinity's hospitals in the United States. He has been with Trinity for 28 years.
