AUSTIN, Texas -- Data Foundry announced that "after an exhaustive search for a colocation provider," Forestar Group Inc. (NYSE: FOR) has chosen Data Foundry. The news reflects a growing trend in public companies choosing to outsource data center services into colocation due to the demands of maintaining and managing their own facility.

"As a result, demand for colocation is increasing due to capacity constraints, business uncertainty and lack of capital to support data center construction projects," notes Mark Noonan, VP of sales at Data Foundry.

Forestar Group, an Austin-based company focused on sustainability and growth solutions in real estate, mineral resources and fiber resources, will leverage Data Foundry’s colocation facility infrastructure for its mission-critical server needs, including redundant power, HVAC and network services.

As a publicly-traded company, Forestar says it utilized a rigid data center selection criteria and chose Data Foundry because the company met a number of stringent requirements. In addition to meeting Forestar’s SAS 70 certification requirements, Data Foundry won top choice for Forestar based on class of service, security, availability and responsiveness.

Data Foundry’s offsite colocation services will reduce Forestar’s disaster recovery costs and the probability of both data center and worksite being impacted by a single disaster. In addition, colocation with Data Foundry increases availability of Forestar’s server and network equipment, as well as eliminating the costs of internally owning, managing and maintaining data center services.

Forestar will rely on Data Foundry’s personnel for on-site technical support, including their remote hands service to support its server needs.

“Data Foundry provides us with the immediate and long term benefits associated with collocated data center services," comments Brian Noble, IS&T Director at Forestar Group. "They were able to reduce our startup and operating costs, yet maintain the values we would provide in our own data center; skilled resources, tight security, reliable power and cooling facility, and a well organized rack and cabling infrastructure.”
