The HDBaseT Alliance, a cross-industry alliance formed to promote and standardize HDBaseT technology for whole-home distribution of uncompressed high-definition (HD) multimedia content, announced the release of the HDBaseT 1.0 Certification Program, along with availability of the first HDBaseT certified product.

The HDBaseT 1.0 Certification Program release includes the availability of the HDBaseT Compliance Test Specification (CTS), designated logo guidelines as well as the opening of the first HDBaseT recognized test facility, located in Israel. The program provides HDBaseT Alliance members with a formal framework for the growing HDBaseT product ecosystem, ensuring interoperability among current and future HDBaseT products and that all HDBaseT compliant products have met an approved baseline for HDBaseT functionality.

Specifically, the program supports the HDBaseT Alliance membership base and product ecosystem by defining state of the art testing procedures to ensure proper functionality of HDBaseT technology. Not only does the program assure manufacturers of inter-vendor product compatibility in the early product deployment stage, but it also helps installers and end-users move to new HDBaseT products based on the evolving HDBaseT specification and imparts the confidence that both legacy and new HDBaseT products will interoperate with each other.

“Since the HDBaseT Alliance’s incorporation less than one year ago, membership has continued to thrive and many products supporting HDBaseT technology have already hit the market,” said Ariel Sobelman, president of the HDBaseT Alliance. “The Alliance has released the 1.0 Certification Program to provide members with a set program for ensuring their products are compliant, interoperable and part of an established product ecosystem. This is an important milestone for the Alliance in promoting industry-wide adoption of HDBaseT technology for whole-home and commercial multimedia content distribution.”

The Alliance expects creation of the HDBaseT certification program to set the stage for additional certified products supporting HDBaseT technology to enter the market. As such, concurrent to the program, HDBaseT also announced the availability of the first HDBaseT certified product, by Gefen. According to a press release, the product has gone through thorough testing based on HDBaseT CTS, ensuring it works in accordance to all functionality specified in the HDBaseT 1.0 specification and is interoperable with other HDBaseT products.

“Gefen has developed several products supporting HDBaseT technology including both extenders and matrixes, and today we are proud to announce the certification of the Gefen Extender for HDMI 1.3 over CAT5 with Ethernet through our successful completion of the new HDBaseT Alliance certification program,” said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen. “As a member of the HDBaseT Alliance we are proud to play an integral role in bringing HDBaseT certified products to market and promoting the adoption of HDBaseT technology across the connectivity industry.”
