Pulse Electronics develops LTE/WLAN/GPS multiband navigation antennas

Sept. 8, 2011
Pulse Electronics' vehicular mount antennas are intended for voice, mobile data, fixed broadband, navigation, asset tracking, fleet management, LTE, and 700 MHz public safety applications.

Pulse Electronics (NYSE:PULS) has introduced a new vehicular mount antenna for long term evolution (LTE), 3G, 4G, WLAN, and GPS applications. The company claims its GPSDM700/2500FFS offers the best gain on the market over multiple frequency bands. Wider frequency bands (698-960/1710-2170/2300-2700/1575 MHz) are covered in this single, compact 3.5” (88.3mm) tall, 4.16” (105.7mm) diameter at base antenna. The broader 698-960 and 1710-2170 MHz bands have a gain of 3 dBi, while 2300-2700 MHz WLAN band has a gain of 6 dBi compared to the industry standard 2 and 4 dBi. The GPS LNA gain at 3V is 5 dBic/25 dB and at 5V is 5 dBic/30 dB.

The GPSDM700/2500FFS are billed as rugged, aesthetically pleasing antennas with UV and IP-65 protection to ensure a long, reliable, maintenance-free life. They are also RoHS compliant. Separate cables create maximum application flexibility. Antennas have 3 cables to optimally support the different technologies. Wireless voice, data, and LTE frequencies are supported by a single low-loss RG-58 cable. WLAN operates on a separate RG-58 cable, while the GPS antenna has its own RG-174 cable. Additional cable configurations, lengths, and connector options are available upon request. These direct mount antennas can be easily mounted through a 3/4 inch (19.05mm) hole. The antenna mount can accommodate up to a 5/8” (15.88mm) thick surface.

The antenna is intended for voice, mobile data, fixed broadband, navigation, asset tracking, fleet management, LTE, and 700 MHz public safety applications. “This new antenna is ahead of the field, offering 4G and LTE operation combined with WLAN and GPS in such a small package,” comments Elaine Baxter, marketing manager for Pulse Electronics Wireless Devices Division. “It will enable our customers to differentiate their products and future-proof designs by offering 4G and LTE capability ahead of wide-scale deployment.”
