IMC launches long-haul 10G media converter at Graybar's national conference

April 20, 2012
Dual-port, modular mode converter extends 10-Gigabit Ethernet over fiber up to 80 km.

At the Graybar National Training Conference in Orlando, FL, IMC Networks announced the release of its iMcV-10G-Converter for XFP/XFP media conversion. Aimed at telecom and enterprise customers, the SNMP manageable converter can be employed in fiber mode conversion and/or fiber extension applications.

Using high-speed XFP transceivers that are protocol independent and support multiple distances, the device allows network operators increased flexibility when installed into 10-Gigabit Ethernet applications. Both ports on the module support copper, fiber and variable speed XFP modules. When installed in a chassis and paired with a SNMP management module, the device allows network operators to monitor XFP status such as temperature, voltage, and output power, in addition to configuring features and Trap notifications.

"The days of bonding multiple 1 Gig connections together to accommodate the bandwidth needs between switches is over," asserts David Zaveski, sr. technical sales engineer for IMC. "10 Gig equipment is now economically priced and more efficient. Our new iMcV-10G-Converter fits into these types of applications where mixing and matching different types of media are required."

Advanced proprietary features of the device include user selectable FX LinkLoss, Configuration Control and XFP Loopback. Support for "3R’s" (Re-amplify, Re-shape, Re-time) optical signal regeneration is also standard, notes IMC. The iMcV-10G-Converter XFP/XFP device is now available for purchase. Model 860-12100 lists for $790. A SFP+ version will be available later in Q2 of 2012.
