Offline fiber switch features RS232 remote port

Electro Standards' QuickSwitch Model 4292 is a single channel LC duplex A/B/C/D offline fiber switch that includes an RS232 remote port.

Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL - Cranston, RI) has introduced its QuickSwitch Model 4292, a single channel LC duplex A/B/C/D offline fiber switch that includes an RS232 remote port. According to the company, the versatile switch allows quick connection to any one of four devices from one Common device.

The switch shares a single port interface device connected to its Common port among four other devices connected to its A, B, C, and D ports, and in its offline position isolates all ports. When power is lost, the Model 4292 switches to its offline position and stops passing data. When power is restored, the unit remains in the offline position until commanded to change.

The device's MEMS-based mirror/prism switch technology supports Gigabit data rates. The unit is service protocol-, bit-rate- and data-transparent. All fiber-optic ports are LC duplex, multimode, 50/125 micron, and support the 850 nm wavelength, used for enterprise applications to move large amounts of data over short distances.

The switch can be controlled via front-panel pushbuttons or remotely via its DB9 RS232 connection and ASCII serial commands. For security, the remote control function of the switch is password protected. Remote commands allow the user to control the switch position, lock out front-panel operations, and obtain switch status.

An optional CE, RoHS and UL listed wide range power supply is available. This power supply, Catalog No. 517277, is approved for 100VAC/240VAC, 50Hz/60Hz and features an IEC 60320 C14 inlet. The Model 4292 with the wide range power supply is suitable for network applications worldwide. More information is available here.
