Report: Installation complexity challenges Ethernet access device market

May 15, 2012
TechNavio report cites issues related to complexity of installation as the main challenge for this market.

Research and Markets (Dublin, Ireland) has added TechNavio's Global Ethernet Access Device Market 2011-2015 report to its offering. TechNavio's analysts forecast the market to grow at a CAGR of 17 percent over the five-year period. One of the key factors contributing to the Ethernet Access Device (EAD) market's growth is inclusive and efficient management, says the analysis. The report says the market has also been witnessing an increase in mobile backhaul demand; however, reliability issues could pose a challenge to growth in this area.

Additionally, a TechNavio networking analyst commented on the report, "The Ethernet equipment industry is incorporating an increasing number of security features into the device. This is mainly because of the growing demand from organizations that need to secure their network as well as the packet data that are flowing through different network layers. Since an EAD can operate in various layers of the open systems interconnection (OSI) model, the use of security features in equipment can help end-users implement an effective set of infrastructure security parameters. Moreover, it also provides protection to the network from unauthorized traffic and advanced subscriber security."

The report also states that one of the major drivers of the global EAD market is the evolution of data center deployment. TechNavio analysts say that organizations seeking to consolidate applications and services into simpler data center architecture find that with a single point for servers, applications, and network services, the overall cost of maintenance of network infrastructure is reduced.

Increasing adoption of virtualization and economies of scale offered by data center capabilities are also seen as factors driving the global EAD market. However, the report cites issues related to complexity of installation as the main challenge for the market. The market's dominant vendors, according to TechNavio, include ADVA Optical Networking, Ciena Corp., Cisco Systems Inc., and Avaya Inc.
