At the ASIS International 2012 conference in Philadelphia, PA (Sept. 10-13), Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. (FFNA) announced the commercial availability of its PalmEntry2, the latest version of its palm-vein biometric access control system.
The upgraded system provides improvements in speed, processing, and functionality, as well as a sleek, low-profile design and multiple mounting configurations. A new, faster processor for the non-contact biometric reader captures images more quickly for greater overall system speed. Also with the platform upgrade, new ergonomic styling is available in multiple configurations to suit any deployment environment (indoor, outdoor, multi-factor).
“PalmEntry2 represents the culmination of nearly two years of intensive engineering and design efforts,” comments Christer Bergman, vice president of Fujitsu’s Biometric Solutions Group. “With its faster image processing and ergonomic and visual style improvements, PalmEntry2 can be quickly installed in virtually any physical access control application, eliminating the need for ID cards and passwords/PINs which can be easily lost, forgotten or compromised.”
PalmEntry2 relies on Fujitsu’s PalmSecure biometric technology. The PalmSecure sensor uses a near-infrared light to capture a user’s palm vein pattern, generating a unique biometric template that is matched against palm vein patterns of pre-registered users. Unlike other readers, a PalmSecure device does not come into contact with the skin, making it extremely hygienic, non-intrusive and unrestricted by external factors such as skin types and conditions, according to the company.
Overall functional details of the upgraded platform include: three door configuration options (integrated controller, low profile); expanded multi-factor capability; outdoor deployment options; private labeling options; mount and housing design focused on improving user experience (e.g. palm placement is intuitive and simple); additional mount and housing accessories to meet a wide spectrum of environmental requirements; new software to make user enrollment, system configuration/setup and monitoring fast and easy; and 64-bit support.
