On Tuesday, September 25, a one-hour seminar delivered via the web will focus on the benefits, testing best-practices, and cleaning recommendations for preterminated fiber-optic cabling systems. Hosted by Cabling Installation & Maintenance and presented by sponsoring companies HellermannTyton, Fluke Networks and Techni-Tool, the seminar is meant to provide a multiple-dimension look at preterm fiber systems.
In a description of the seminar, the organizers state, "Specifically in data center environments, the use of preterminated fiber-optic cabling is on the rise and with good reason. The ability of preterminated fiber to accommodate current and future data-transmission rates, improved performance of multi-fiber/array-fiber connectivity, and the user-friendliness of preterminated systems are among the reasons increasing numbers of users are opting for preterminated fiber. The heretofore inability and/or non-requirement to test preterminated fiber systems has been one 'blind spot' in the deployment of these systems. This webcast seminar will look at the characteristics and benefits of preterminated fiber-optic cabling systems, including a look at the need and ability for these systems to undergo certification testing."
The seminar will include three presentations, listed and described as follows.
- User benefits of preterminated fiber - Robert Yarbrough of HellermannTyton will describe the physical characteristics of preterm fiber systems, explaining how and why they meet multiple needs in a data center environment.
- Verifying preterminated fiber's performance - Fluke Networks' Harley Lang will weigh existing methods of testing preterm fiber systems against new technology, offered by Fluke Networks, that significantly changes the time investment required for such tests.
- Combating contamination - Bob Mahr of Techni-Tool will discuss the methods and tools that can be used to identify and deal with contamination on preterm fiber connections.
After its live broadcast at 1pm EDT on Tuesday, September 5, the seminar will be available for on-demand viewing for a period of six months.
