40-watt distributed antenna system remote unit is designed to meet growing wireless coverage and capacity needs for indoor, outdoor, and large open environments.

Corning MobileAccess announced the launch of MobileAccessGX, a 40-watt distributed antenna system (DAS) remote unit designed to meet growing wireless coverage and capacity needs for indoor, outdoor, and large open environments. According to the company, the high-powered, weather-proofed MobileAccessGX supports the wireless service combinations used by leading carriers while avoiding unnecessary and costly cell site build-outs.

Key features of the MobileAccessGX platform, according to Corning, include:

* 40 watts of power per band for reliable, high-powered connectivity and capacity in transitional areas.

* A single, low-loss fiber connection from a centralized headend for cell, PCS, 700MHz and AWS services, available in SISO and MIMO configurations.

* Scalable multi-band radio frequency (RF) transport, with up to four bands per enclosure.

* A ruggedized, NEMA 4-rated housing, designed to handle harsh weather and environments.

* Common headend architecture for combination deployment with other MobileAccess solutions.

* Full integration with Corning's OptiTap system, simplifying connectivity.

Corning says that combining the MobileAccessGX with the medium-powered MobileAccessHX or lower-powered MobileAccess2000 DAS remotes may offer carriers the flexibility to address nearly every indoor and outdoor wireless concern with fewer antennas, a smaller footprint, less radio-frequency-power waste and base-station drain.

"With the introduction of MobileAccessGX, we now offer a suite of solutions to address nearly every conceivable wireless need," contends Jeff Kunst, vice president, global product line Management, Corning MobileAccess. "GX is an ideal solution for dispersed and wide-ranging topologies, like college campuses, and greatly helps wireless carriers better meet the needs of these customers without extensive and costly infrastructure overhaul."
