Web seminar details distributed antenna systems

Oct. 5, 2012
One-hour seminar will include presentations on why DAS is needed in some environments, the nuts-and-bolts of a DAS deployment, and special considerations in project planning.

A web seminar hosted by Cabling Installation & Maintenance will provide detail on distributed antenna system (DAS) technology, including discussion of the cabling systems needed for this type of wireless transmission. In a description of the seminar, Cabling Installation & Maintenance says, “The pervasiveness of mobile communications has brought to light the fact that many enterprise environments do not have sufficient capacity to support occupants’ carrier-delivered wireless service. Facilities that are sprawling, subterranean, high-rise or densely populated likely have difficulty delivering a wireless service provider’s signal to users. This reality has given rise to the deployment of DAS within enterprises.” It adds that the seminar’s presenters “will provide detail on the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ of DAS in the enterprise.”

Seminar sponsors DAS Simplified, Optical Cable Corporation and Vision Technologies will deliver its technical presentations. Those presentations are described as follows.

Why and where enterprise DAS is necessary—The technical and business reasons why enterprise DAS is needed in many environments. The presentation provides the physical characteristics of an enterprise that can interfere with or outright prevent the penetration of wireless signals from service providers, and explains in general terms how DAS overcomes these barriers.

How a DAS is deployed in an enterprise—Nuts-and-bolts approach provides detail on the elements of a DAS including antennas, cabling and transmission equipment. Provides an overview of the types of systems available and their basic functions, and addresses the reality of these installations frequently taking place in brownfield environments.

Special considerations for enterprise DAS—Explains the considerations and efforts necessary for a DAS project that are beyond those typically needed for a structured cabling install. These considerations can include working with one or more service providers and the benefits of using DAS technical specialists.

The seminar will take place live on Wednesday, October 31 at 1pm EDT and is expected to last approximately one hour. Thereafter it will be available for on-demand viewing.
