Data center physical infrastructure: Owning vs. outsourcing

Nov. 26, 2012
New white paper from APC-Schneider Electric.

A new white paper from APC-Schneider Electric examines "considerations for owning versus outsourcing data center physical infrastructure."

The paper's premise is that, when faced with the decision of upgrading an existing data center, building a new one, or leasing space in a colocation data center, there are both quantitative and qualitative differences to consider. A 10-year data center TCO forecast generally favors upgrading or building over outsourcing, notes the discussion.

However, APC-Schneider's analysis demonstrates that these economics "may be overwhelmed by a business’ sensitivity to cash flow, the deployment timeframe, data center life expectancy, regulatory requirements, and other strategic factors." The white paper discusses how to assess these key factors to help organizations make an informed decision.
