PoE thin clients enhance green network connectivity

Dec. 3, 2012
AIS has released new 7” and 10” Power over Ethernet (PoE) Human Machine Interface (HMI) thin clients.

New 7” and 10” Power over Ethernet (PoE) Human Machine Interface (HMI) thin clients from American Industrial Systems Inc. (AIS) combine a touchscreen interface with power, speed, and low energy consumption to flexibly support any thin client architecture.

The company is an ISO 9001:2008-certified supplier and manufacturer of PoE thin client touchscreen operator interface terminals for HMI equipment in industrial automation and process control applications. PoE technology is ideal for building automation as well, and for interactive scheduling systems in hotels, government and hospitals, notes AIS. PoE safely transfers electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard Cat 5 cable in an Ethernet network. It requires no modification of existing Ethernt cabling infrastructure.

The AIS industrial thin client PoE touchscreen operator interfaces are designed with the Intel Atom processor Z510 (512K Cache, 1.10 GHz, 400 MHz FSB), and feature: low power consumption with max. TDP 2W; wide-ranging I/O; a ruggedized front bezel; IP 54 and IP65 protection class ratings; and high shock and vibration resistance components engineered to withstand harsh factory and environmental conditions.

The new 7” and 10.1” HMI thin clients are intended as "value products" -- especially cost-effective choices for limited budgets. AIS says its industrial HMI thin clients easily integrate into existing Ethernet and TCP/ IP installations, and are used in monitoring and controlling mission critical processes, thereby allowing operators to see desktop-quality graphics and real time updates of processes in a common web browser.

Powered by Microsoft Windows Embedded standard operating systems, AIS adds that its HMI thin clients have been pre-tested and pre-configured for high availability, high performance and manageability, and are security-appropriate for workloads running complete supervisory control, process monitoring and operator interface software.
