The Light Brigade opens Canadian fiber-optic training, eyeing petrochemical plant installations

“We are seeing a significant need for more fiber-optic training in the oil and gas industry and plan to offer this training to our Canadian customers,” says Jim Clodfelter, marketing manager for The Light Brigade.

Fiber-optic training specialist The Light Brigade, a division of AFL, announced that it will provide six of its open class training sessions in Canada this summer and fall. The classes derive from the company’s Fiber Optics 1-2-3 and Fiber Optics for Oil and Gas programs.

“We are seeing a significant need for more fiber-optic training in the oil and gas industry and plan to offer this training to our Canadian customers,” says Jim Clodfelter, marketing manager for The Light Brigade.

He adds, "Our fiber-optic oil and gas course features 12 hours of classroom training and 12 hours of hands-on skills labs that are designed to provide our attendees with the practical understanding and the skills required to properly design, install, and maintain fiber-optic systems in petrochemical environments such as offshore drilling, pipeline, refineries, and process plants."

The four-day Fiber Optics 1-2-3 courses comprise 16 hours of classroom training and 16 hours of hands-on skills labs. The courses, which The Light Brigade says are its most popular, target individuals looking to learn how to design, install, and maintain fiber-optic communications systems in such applications as telco, broadband access, and premises (LAN) environments.

The courses enable students to use the latest fiber-optic technology and equipment to learn how to splice, connectorize, test, and troubleshoot fiber-optic networks to increase efficiency, reliability, and on-the-job safety, as well as to reduce cost and downtime, the company says.

The schedules for the Fiber Optics 1-2-3 are as follows:

July 15-18 in Vancouver, BC
July 23–26 in Edmonton, AB
August 13–16 in Toronto, ON.

The Fiber Optics for Oil/Gas courses will be provided on these dates:

August 6-8 in Sarnia, ON
October 22-24 in Calgary, AB
October 28-30 in Ft. McMurray, AB.
