Mellanox unveils 56 Gigabit Ethernet interconnect line for data centers

May 10, 2013
Mellanox 56GbE family of NICs, switches, QSFP+ cables and software provides a 40% performance improvement over 40-GbE, claims the company.

At Interop Las Vegas 2013, Mellanox Technologies (NASDAQ: MLNX) announced its end-to-end 56 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interconnect line, billed as "the world’s highest performing Ethernet-based server and storage interconnect solution" for data centers.

“Increasing bandwidth requirements, data volume, data center consolidation and virtualization are driving the demand for faster Ethernet solutions,” comments Gilad Shainer, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “Utilizing Mellanox’s complete 56GbE solution, companies can gain significant application performance by connecting their storage and server infrastructure with the fastest Ethernet fabric."

Comprised of the company's ConnectX-3 and ConnectX-3 Pro NICs, SwitchX-2 based SX1024 and SX1036 switches, QSFP+ cables, and acceleration and management software, Mellanox claims its 56GbE solution may deliver 40 percent more bandwidth than competing 40-GbE platforms, while enabling higher server density at lower cost, as well as a more efficient network design using less cables and less switches.

"Furthermore, 56GbE enables the most efficient inter-switch connectivity, resulting in lower overall data center capital and operating expenses,” adds Shainer.

Mellanox’s end-to-end 56GbE line is interoperable with standard 10/40GbE data center products. A live demonstration at will be shown at Interop (May 7-9). For more info, visit www.mellanox.com/interop2013/.
