Google Fiber headhunting network ops center experts

Jan. 4, 2013
NOC positions will play a key role in the Google Fiber initiative.

MSPmentor.net, an industry news and resources site billing itself as 'The Ultimate Guide to Managed Services', has exclusively reported that Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) is currently seeking to hire network operations center (NOC) management experts.

According to two job listings that just appeared on MSPmentor’s job board, "the NOC positions will play a key role in Google Fiber, an Internet Service Provider (ISP) initiative that offers 'a connection speed 100 times faster than today’s broadband', according to Google's marketing.

MSPmentor.com's editor contends in a cogent analysis that "for MSPs [managed services providers], the Google Fiber build-out is worth watching for a range of reasons."

The site speculates that the job postings pretty clearly indicate a grab from Google's Mountain View headquarters for control over backend services for customer apps and end-points now being provided in cities with the company's newly deployed fiber infrastructure.

"Lump in the Google Chromebook, Chromebox and Anroid initiatives and the story gets really interesting," notes the commentary.
