IEEE introduces copyright infringement form

The aim is to reduce misuse of IEEE intellectual property.

In the IEEE's ongoing effort to eliminate copyright infringement on the Internet, a new Web form is now available for all of the association's staff, members and volunteers to use to report misuse of IEEE intellectual property.

The IEEE said in a statement that it is dedicated to keeping its members and authors safe from the effects of piracy of IEEE Intellectual Property (IP). This would include unauthorized posting of IEEE conference or journal papers, re-selling of IEEE standards, or unauthorized use of the IEEE name or logo.

Piracy of IP "not only hurts IEEE as an organization, it can also hurt the IEEE members, subscribers, and authors," contends the association. So far in 2012, pirated IEEE content has been removed from over 40 Web sites and 20 blogs, said an official press release. There have also been nearly 8,000 takedown notices distributed.

The copyright infringement reporting form is now available via IEEE Xplore. All reports of IP misuse will be reviewed by members of the association's IP Misuse Strategy Team. To submit questions or receive additional information, contact [email protected].
