Apple specialist OWC offering Thunderbolt copper, optical cables up to 30 meters

Jan. 21, 2014
From Other World Computing (OWC), a wide selection of Thunderbolt copper and optical cables are now available.

Apple Developer Program member Other World Computing (OWC) announced at CES 2014 that it has rounded out its offering of Thunderbolt cables with three new optical cable lengths of 10m, 20m, and 30m. The company notes that its longer length options for cabling may allow noisy storage appliances to be moved to an equipment closet for a more quiet and productive workplace.

OWC says the new cablies utilize the latest Thunderbolt chipsets for high-speed 10Gb/s Thunderbolt and 20Gb/s Thunderbolt 2 devices. The company says the cables enable enhanced video workflow with support for faster 4K video transfers and 4K display capabilities via DisplayPort 1.2.

Able to daisy-chain up to six Thunderbolt devices, the cables can be used for Target Disk Mode between two Macs that support Thunderbolt, or can enable a new iMac as a display for a MacBook Pro equipped with Thunderbolt, suggests OWC. All cables include a one-year warranty.

Based in Chicago, OWC provides one of the industry's largest online catalogs of computer, iPod, iPhone, and iPad enhancement products through its e-commerce portal www.macsales.com.
