Southco to talk data center physical security at 2014 BICSI Conference

Jan. 13, 2014
Presentation will focus on securing and monitoring physical access at the rack level in the data center.

On Wednesday, February 5 at the 2014 BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando, Florida, Southco will deliver a presentation on physical security options for data centers. The talk, entitled Securing and Monitoring Physical Access at the Rack Level in Your Datacenter, will be presented by Southco’s Steve Spatig, general manager of the company's Electronic Access Solutions (EAS) unit, and Mike Fahy, Southco's business development manager, EAS.

In the presentation, Southco's Spatig and Fahy will focus on how networked systems can provide remote control and monitoring of physical access down to the rack level from any location. The premise of the discussion will be that today’s data centers demand an increased level of physical security to comply with strict data protection regulations. While many data centers have appropriate cyber systems in place to protect access to digital information, security measures for protecting physical access to assets within the data center IT room often fall short.

“Quick confirmation of physical access credentials is crucial in the event of a security breach, especially when faced with penalties and steep fines for non-compliance with data protection laws," comments Southco's Spatig. "Rack level electronic access solutions can supplement building and logical data security, streamline server access and provide remote monitoring to an individual rack by way of addressable access points."

Southco will also exhibit at the BICSI Winter tradeshow, booth #1031, from Feb. 2-6.
