Bowman appointed to BoD for InfraGard National Members Alliance

March 26, 2014
The BICSI past president will serve a three-year term with the group comprising private-sector cyber professionals who work in collaboration with FBI field offices.

Jerry Bowman, RCDD, RTPM, NTS, CISSP, CPP, CDCDP—immediate past president of BICSI and currently serving as the association’s security-industry liaison—recently was appointed to a three-year term on the InfraGard National Members Alliance (INMA). BICSI announced the appointment. The INMA is a non-profit organization comprising 84 independent members of the InfraGard Program, which is a collaborative effort between private-sector cyber professionals and the 56 field offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The INMA represents more than 25,000 FBI-vetted InfraGard subject matter experts, BICSI explained when it made this announcement.

“The convergence of security systems like access control and surveillance onto the network places much of the responsibility for future security designs into the hands of ICT professionals,” BICSI said. “Bowman’s recent appointment enhances and affirms BICSI’s commitment to provide education, training and credentialing for ICT professionals working in the electronic safety and security (ESS) field. This, in turn, supports the INMA’s mission to provide its members with education and information to protect critical infrastructures from both physical and cyber security threats.” The association further explained that among the goals of its board’s new strategic plan is outreach to associations and organizations that serve industries focused on IP convergence and physical infrastructure. “BICSI’s collaboration with InfraGard and other security-related organizations further confirms this commitment to provide new and complementary educational opportunities to BICSI members and stakeholders alike,” BICSI said.

Michael A. Collins, RCDD, RTPM, CCDA, NCE, BICSI’s president, noted, “Jerry was instrumental in expanding the business model to include ESS stakeholders, and he has always been steadfast in his commitment and dedication to the ESS sector. He was a natural choice for his new role as the BICSI security industry liaison, and I look forward to the many opportunities that will arise from our future collaboration with the INMA through Jerry’s role on their board.”

Bowman has been a BICSI member for 17 years and served on its board of director for 8 years, including the past 2 as president. In that time he has contributed to numerous educational offerings and strategic initiatives, chairing several committees and having an instrumental role in the creation and implementation of the NxtGen program. While president, he oversaw the signing of BICSI’s memorandum of understanding with ASIS International.

He also served as chair of BICSI’s Electronic Safety and Security Design Reference Manual (ESSDRM), 1st Edition, and vice chair of the document’s 2nd Edition.
