Black Box, Sony join HDBaseT Alliance

June 18, 2014
Cross-industry consortium continues to promote and standardize HDBaseT technology for end-to-end distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content.

At InfoComm 2014 in Las Vegas, Black Box Corporation (NASDAQ: BBOX) announced that it has joined the HDBaseT Alliance at the consortium's Adopter level. HDBaseT Adopters have access to finalized specifications and updates, are listed as members on the HDBaseT Web site, provide feedback on finalized specifications, and more.

Erik Indresøvde, audio visual product manager for Black Box, commented, “We are very excited to be members of the HDBaseT Alliance. Black Box has several HDBaseT products for signal extension which will soon be available to our customers. We have staked out our position in the growing HDBaseT ecosystem, and being members of the Alliance enables us to certify our HDBaseT products to ensure the highest standard.”

Black Box will be exhibiting several HDBaseT products at InfoComm in Las Vegas, June 18–20, 2014 in the company's booth #N1963.

Also at this year's InfoComm, the HDBaseT Alliance welcomed Sony Corporation as a Contributor member to the consortium, as the company introduced new high-definition, energy-efficient projectors with HDBaseT functionality. Sony is launching a new series of high-definition 5,000lm 3LCD projectors with WUXGA resolution and built-in HDBaseT interfaces (VPL-CH375 and VPL-CH355). The company says the new, cost-optimized projector features high image quality and improved installation flexibility, suitable both for corporate and educational projects.

Sony’s VPL-CH375 HDBaseT-projector will be showcased at the Alliance's booth #C6035 at InfoComm 2014. In addition, the company is introducing the 7,000lm WUXGA Laser Light Source 3LCD Projector with optional HDBaseT adaptor (VPL-FHZ700L). HDBaseT interfaces support the convergence of audio, video, Ethernet and control signals over a single 100 meters LAN cable.

“As one of the leaders in the pro-AV market, it was natural for Sony to follow the progress being made by the HDBaseT Alliance. Our subsidiary, Sony Pictures Entertainment, is one of the original founders of the Alliance and a Promoter member today," noted Toru Suzuki, general manager in Sony's Visual Presentation Solutions business division. "As we planned the new series of high-definition, high-performance projectors, it was essential that we integrate HDBaseT interfaces so as to enhance installation flexibility and increase the cost-effectiveness of these solutions.”

The HDBaseT Alliance is a cross-industry alliance to promote and standardize HDBaseT technology for end-to-end distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content. HDBaseT technology converges full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable, and various control signals through a single LAN cable. This is referred to as 5Play, a feature set that sets HDBaseT technology above the current standard.
