Alcatel-Lucent ranked #1 in small cell equipment market share

Alcatel-Lucent leads in small cell equipment market share while Broadcom leads SoC rankings, reports ABI Research.

In the overall small cell equipment market, ABI Research estimates that in 2013 Alcatel-Lucent ranked first in market share, followed by Airvana, Cisco, and ip.access.

“The year 2013 saw two significant acquisitions in the small cell ecosystem, with Cisco acquiring leading equipment vendor Ubiquisys, and Intel acquiring the wireless communications semiconductor business of Mindspeed, signalling the entry of two well-funded and dominant players into the small cells market,” comments Nick Marshall, research director for ABI Research.

According to ABI, among semiconductor baseband SoC suppliers for the market, Broadcom finished in first, followed by Intel, Texas Instruments, and Freescale.

“ABI Research’s market share estimate by protocol has Alcatel-Lucent leading in 3G and Contela leading in 4G, while among the semiconductor vendors Broadcom leads in 3G and Cavium leads in 4G,” continues ABI's Marshall.
