Webinar tackles firestop-inspection standards

Aug. 6, 2014
The Firestop Contractors International Association will cover ASTM E 2174 and ASTM E 2393 as part of a series on designing, installing, inspecting and maintaining firestop systems.

The Firestop Contractors International Association (FCIA) will host one installment in a series of webinars on Thursday, August 14 when it presents on the ASTM E 2174 and ASTM E 2393 Firestop Inspection Standards. “This is the final ‘I’ part of the Design, Installation, Inspection, Maintenance and Management (DIIM) series of webinars,” the organization said. The webinar will be delivered at 11am EDT/10am CDT on August 14.

The FCIA invited attendees: “Bring your final questions on the topic, as Bill McHugh [FCIA executive director] covers the standards in detail along with the accreditation for Inspection Agencies and Individuals as provided by the IAS AC 291 Accreditation for Special Inspection Agencies.”

The association further explained that its collaboration with ASTM members—contractors, manufacturers and consultants—helped build the firestop inspection standards. “FCIA’s Code Committee, along with code consultant Bill Koffel, were proponents for the successful inclusion of ASTM E 2174 and ASTM E 2393 in the 2012 International Building Code, Special Inspections, Chapter 17,” the FCIA said. “FCIA’s work with the International Accreditation Service also contributed to the creation of the Firestopping Section of the IAS AC-291 for Firestop special inspection agency companies.”

The webinar will cover both the aforementioned ASTM standards, as well as IAS AC 291 and other material, the FCIA concluded. The event will be conducted in the GoToMeeting platform. You can register for the seminar here.
