TE Connectivity talks public safety DAS

Dedicated DAS supports primary public safety and critical first responder frequencies in the VHF/UHF/700/800/TETRA bands on a single system.

Produced by RCR Wireless News, the clip above sees TE Connectivity's (NYSE: TEL) Karen Hong tracked down at a recent wireless industry event to discuss the TE Public Safety DAS Solution in some detail.

TE's public safety DAS is a dedicated distributed antenna system that supports primary public safety and critical first responder frequencies in the VHF/UHF/700/800/TETRA bands on a single system. The system provides high-reliability coverage for public safety communications services for both in-building and outdoor applications. Developed in collaboration with Fiber-Span, TE emphasizes that the code-compliant DAS platform has been specifically engineered to ensure life safety protection for the public as well as for police, firefighters and other first responders.

A key companion product in TE's DAS line is the company's CPRI digital interface unit (CDIU), a pre-integrated solution that leverages the Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) for base station connectivity. The unit removes the need for RF processing and attenuation panels at the distributed antenna system (DAS) head-end, which TE maintains reduces the physical equipment required in a deployment by more than 50 percent, and may reduce cost of materials by up to 40 percent.
