In EMEA, Nexans unveils installer-friendly tight buffer universal fiber-optic cabling

Dec. 8, 2014
Nexans says it developed the new cable using a new type of glass yarn that combines rodent protection with installer friendliness.

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Nexans' EMEA unit announced the launch of its new LANmark-OF tight buffer universal cable, which the company says augments its existing tight buffer indoor and universal cable portfolio with a more installer-friendly and cost-effective cable designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Nexans says it developed the new cable using a new type of glass yarn that combines rodent protection with installer friendliness, and avoids skin-irritation when compared to similar products of other vendors.

“The LANmark-OF Tight Buffer Universal cable is a fiber cable that can be used indoor and outdoor in a duct. It complies with the indoor fire requirements and can be installed indoor both vertically and horizontally. It can also be used for outdoor installation in a duct as the water tight glass yarns make the cables fully waterproof and rodent retardant,” comments Mr. Tarek Helmy, regional director Gulf and Middle East, South & East Africa of Nexans Cabling Solutions.

The LANmark-OF Tight Buffer Universal cable is dielectric and fully dry and has 900 um buffered fibers, notes Nexans. This second coating of 900 um provides additional protection of the fibers and facilitates handling when terminating the fibers in a patch panel. The cables' easy strip tight buffer design allows stripping the fiber over 10 cm in one action.

“Our existing Tight Buffer cables portfolio have glass yarns for rodent protection and water tightness but unfortunately these glass yarns could cause skin-irritation during installation," explains Nexans' Helmy. "Hence, for our latest LANmark-OF Tight Buffer Universal cables, we have developed a new type of glass yarn that combines rodent protection with installer friendliness and avoids skin-irritation. With these features the glass yarns can better be used indoors."

The LANmark-OF Tight Buffer Universal is most suitable for direct termination by either anaerobic or hot melt connectors as well as with splicing of pigtails. The new cable is a cost effective solution for short and medium distances, adds Nexans.
