Berk-Tek unveils 'EVERYTHING IP' initiative

Sept. 15, 2015
To lay the groundwork for the new initiative, Berk-Tek notes that invested millions of dollars into its research and development resources in the form of its TEK Center, the company’s recently opened premier showcase and lab facility.

Copper and fiber-optic cabling manufacturer Berk-Tek, a Nexans company, recently unveiled its EVERYTHING IP initiative, which aims to help customers prepare their network infrastructure for both current and future demands. In positioning the program, the company released a press release stating the following:

"Years ago, Berk-Tek anticipated that IP networks would one day be at the center of virtually everything people do, and that this would bring about changes in what organizations need and expect from their network infrastructures.

At that time, Berk-Tek identified three market drivers that would contribute to EVERYTHING IP: explosive bandwidth growth, an evolution in wireless technology, and more Power over Ethernet. Berk-Tek realized early on that these market drivers would precipitate the development of significant new technologies, which would ultimately stress network infrastructure like never before.

Every year, we are connecting, controlling, and powering billions of new devices through IP networks. Network infrastructure must be designed to maximize simultaneous operation of voice, data, video, and power in real world environments."

To lay the groundwork for the new initiative, Berk-Tek notes that invested millions of dollars into its research and development resources in the form of its TEK Center, the company’s recently opened premier showcase and lab facility. As a result, Berk-Tek says it can guarantee that its cabling solutions "not only exceed industry standards, but more importantly, are uniquely designed to protect growing IP traffic from the stress of converged applications and next generation PoE."

Berk-Tek further contends that its EVERYTHING IP initiative's messaging is unique among the cabling industry, "where much of the focus is on decibels and margins."

“We knew that protecting our customers’ growing IP traffic from higher power PoE would be a challenge mainly because of the additional heat,” comments Mike McCarty, vice president of information technology and application system Labs for Berk-Tek. He continues, “The good news is that our technical teams have developed several break-through technologies that have shown outstanding results in the TEK Center’s testing.”

“We are extremely excited to share with our customers the unique value that Berk-Tek brings them through our EVERYTHING IP initiative,” adds Jim Frey, director of marketing at Berk-Tek. “We understand that network infrastructure is an investment, and not an expense. At Berk-Tek, we are always working to maximize our customers’ return on their investment.”

Over the course of September, Berk-Tek says it will expand on its EVERYTHING IP messaging, with the release of several technical documents and marketing literature, including white papers, test reports, and, significantly, a new scoring system for evaluating cabling performance.
