Category cable for AV the subject of online course from InfoComm, BICSI

April 27, 2016
The 10-hour online course focusing on category cable for AV applications covers cable and connectors, terminating and testing, and cable labeling.

BICSI has partnered with InfoComm International to release a new online course focused on category cable for AV applications. “How to Install and Validate Category Cable for AV” provides fundamental education for installation technicians working with category cable in the AV industry, the associations said when announcing the new course. The 10-hour course begins with the basics of cabling, familiarizing the student with cable connectors and category cable terminology. It then instructs on terminating and testing cables, cable linking and installation, and troubleshooting. The course includes lessons on the InfoComm standard F501.01:2015 Cable Labeling for Audiovisual Systems. The standard became available in January.

“This course also includes a skills demonstration component,” the two associations explained. “Students will take photos or video of their termination and validation tests, which will be reviewed by instructors. To enrich the learning experience, the course also features 10 demonstration videos.”

BICSI president Brian Ensign said, “BICSI is pleased to continue our long-time collaboration with InfoComm and provide best-practice-based information for this course. Knowledge of category cable is critical for ICT and AV professionals alike, and partnerships with other associations, like InfoComm, are vital to advance education and ensure information consistency across our industries.”

InfoComm’s executive director and chief executive officer David Labuskes added, “InfoComm is committed to providing AV professionals with rich educational resources. It’s important for InfoComm to work with associations like BICSI to share best practices and incorporate them into our training. This ensures more technical professionals out in the field are following universal standards. We’re looking forward to partnering with BICSI on additional educational programs in the future.”
