NEMA 4 enclosure protects public safety DAS remotes

Zinwave’s IP-66-rated NEMA 4 enclosure protects public safety DAS remote units from dust, water, and contact.

Zinwave introduced a new National Electrical Manufacturers Association 4 (NEMA 4) IP-66-rated enclosure for its wideband distributed antenna system (DAS) remote units. The company says the addition of this enclosure makes the UNItivity DAS solutions “compliant with public safety wireless system regulations. The new enclosure is National Fire Protection Association [NFPA] compliant, and protects against falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, windblown dust, splashing water, and hose-directed water common in firefighting operations,” Zinwave explained. “As such, the NEMA 4/IP 66 enclosure ensures compliance with NFDP and IFC Code requirements.”

Most public and government buildings require NFPA-compliant, NEMA 4/IP-66-rated enclosures for DAS remote units, the company further said. The new Zinwave enclosure provides this assurance and comes with banding options for various band combinations including 150/450/700- and 800-MHz radio use, it added. The enclosure includes an integrated fiber splice tray, two NEMA 4-rated pass-through fiber and alarming ports, an optional integrated power supply, and optional 12- or 24-hour battery backup.

Zinwave has experience with public safety DAS wireless systems in universities and government agencies, and its wideband wireless access system “is the only solution on the market that can support the new 700-MHz public safety frequency without hardware modifications,” the company noted. “This ensures investment protection for enterprises and government agencies that deploy the UNItivity solution to meet public safety requirements.”

John Spindler, vice president of marketing at Zinwave, commented, “Radio communications is a crucial lifeline for first responders in emergency situations, and these responders need radio access systems that they can rely on 100 percent. Our NEMA 4 enclosure ensures that our wideband DAS systems comply with all fire and building codes and can deliver outstanding performance in any emergency.”
