CPI’s Clik-Nut is a tool-less alternative to traditional cage nuts

Aug. 29, 2016
Chatsworth Products Inc. says users save time, as well as fingernails and flesh, by using Clik-Nut instead of traditional cage nuts.

Chatsworth Products Inc. recently introduced the Clik-Nut hardware kit, featuring the Clik-Nut itself. CPI says the product “addresses the fundamental challenges of installing and removing traditional cage nuts.” The squeeze-and-release design is patent-pending; it requires no tools and, CPI says, makes nut installation 70 percent faster and easier.

“Standard cage nut hardware can be difficult and time-consuming to install or move,” Chatsworth said when introducing Clik-Nut. “Installing cage nuts requires force that exceeds what can be reasonably applied by human fingers. Consequently, installers routinely suffer from pinched fingers, ripped or detached fingernails. CPI’s Clik-Nut Hardware Kit resolves these issues.”

Sam Rodriguez, senior product manager of cabinet and thermal solutions for CPI, commented, “Anyone who has ever used cage nuts will attest they are not easy to install or remove. They are difficult and painful to install without a specialty tool; the tool is always missing when you need it, and no tool works well for both installation and removal. The increasing number of requests to install these at the factory combined with general customer comments over the years motivated us to take a second look.”

Chatsworth specifically pointed out Clik-Nut’s advantages.

  • No tools required—The squeeze-and-release design allows for easier, faster, safer installation
  • High payload capacity—Clik-Nut exhibits the same strength and reliability as standard cage nuts
  • Universal usability—The product is fully compatible with 0.375-inch (9.5-mm) EIA square-punched holes

As demonstrated in the video on this page, users align the Clik-Nut with the desired mounting hole, then squeeze and release the tab. The Clik-Nut will be fastened in place.

Clik-Nuts are available in packages of 25, 250 and 1,000 pieces, and available in multiple thread sets—M6, 12-24 and 10-32. The thread size is engraved on the nut.

“I am excited to introduce our new Clik-Nut design and am confident that our customers will be pleased,” Rodriguez added. “Instead of creating a better tool, we eliminated it. The result is a fast and simple design that provides the same high-reliability attachment the industry has relied upon for decades.”
