The Cabling and Networking Standards Summit will be held on May 9 at the headquarters of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) in Arlington, VA. As a first-of-its-kind event, this Summit is unlike other learning opportunities. Here, we present information about what the Summit is, and what it isn’t.
WHAT IT IS
The Cabling and Networking Standards Summit is an immersion into the cabling and networking standards that carry significant weight in project specification and execution. The entire day will be spent examining recently published standards, as well as standards under development, by the TIA and other standards-development organizations.
It’s an opportunity for professionals who design, install, test or manage structured cabling systems to get up-to-date on the activities in the TIA’s TR-42 Committee, as well as standards groups in the IEEE, ISO/IEC, and BICSI.
It’s practical. The information learned at the Summit will be applicable immediately to projects in the planning stages. Attendees may also find that with the knowledge they gain at this event, they can improve or simplify projects already in progress.
The Summit is interactive. Attendees will learn a great deal from those who are at the forefront of cabling and networking standards development. Attendees also will have the opportunity to be heard by these same standards leaders. It’s an opportunity for the professionals who develop standards and the professionals who purchase and use standards to meet face-to-face, share experiences, and gain the opportunity to improve what they do and how they do it by virtue of their attendance at the Cabling and Networking Standards Summit.
WHAT IT ISN’T
This isn’t a standards committee meeting. The speakers and panelists won’t spend the day addressing each other attempting to reach a consensus on technical details. Rather, they will deliver relevant information that’s meant to be immediately useful for each attendee.
It’s not minutiae. The structure of the presentations is such that they will provide the most-important takeaways from recent standards developments. It won’t bog you down in unnecessary detail, but it will spend time detailing the specifics that matter most to you, your customers, and your projects.
