Belden-Grass Valley hits NAB 2014, unveils custom pre-terminated cable assemblies

The company is this week showcasing what it calls "two industry game-changers" for the broadcast communications infrastructure market.

At the 2014 NAB Show in Las Vegas (April 7-10), Belden is this week showcasing news of what it calls "two industry game-changers" for the broadcast communications infrastructure market.

The first "game-changing" announcement is the unveiling of the newly formed Grass Valley, a Belden brand specializing in providing broadband equipment platforms. Grass Valley and Miranda Technologies have merged to create the new Grass Valley, adding to the Belden portfolio of best-in-class communications technology brands offering an integrated package of audio, video and data transport systems over copper and/or fiber.

At the 2014 NAB Show, Belden will demonstrate its new and enhanced end-to-end workflows featuring the Grass Valley products from two booths: playout workflows in the North Hall at booth #N2513, and live and news production workflows from the South Hall at its booth #SL206. According to a company press release, "Future Ready – Now" is this year’s new sales and marketing theme for Belden and Grass Valley.

The second big announcement at this year's NAB show from Belden is specifically for broadcast engineers: For the first time, Belden is showcasing its custom pre-terminated cable assemblies using its SMPTE 311M, tactical fiber, coax, triax and audio cables, combined with Belden and other industry-standard connector brands.

Engineered to deliver unmatched performance in the field and available in custom lengths, the new pre-terminated cable assemblies come a wide variety of cable constructions and colors, are manufactured to meet Belden’s strict quality standards, and undergo rigorous testing to ensure reliable signal transmission.

In correlation with the company's main exhibits at this year's NAB show, Belden’s multimedia technology manager, Steve Lampen, will present a talk on "4K and Copper Cable", describing the challenges of 4K and UHD video transmissions over coax cabling. Lampen will also outline the company's work to design a coax cable that can carry the required high bandwidth signals over a single link. This presentation will be held on April 9 at 9 AM local time in room S-228 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
