CPRI optical transceivers for mobile front-haul applications

June 19, 2015
Champion ONE has added optical transceivers that support Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) protocols to its Passport line.

Optical module and passive systems vendor Champion ONE says it has added optical transceivers that support Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) protocols to its Passport line. CPRI is a common protocol for support of communication between wireless cell towers and base stations as well as related mobile front-haul applications.

"As a leading supplier to top telecom service operators, Champion ONE has encountered strong demand for mobile front-haul solutions driven by small cell distributed antenna deployments and next generation upgrades to service growing smartphone bandwidth usage," explains John Jutila, CEO of Champion ONE.

The new CPRI transceiver line includes a variety of form factors (including SFP and SFP+) for dual-fiber, CWDM, and DWDM applications, this last including tunable. Supported reaches range from 10 km to 80 km. All of the optical modules conform to their respective MSAs and come with a 5-year warranty.

"The market for front-haul optical transceivers already exceeds $500 million annually, according to Lightcounting, and our new CPRI product offering directly addresses this growth segment while helping our customers continue to expand their infrastructure," concludes Champion ONE's Jutila.
