The 6th Annual BICSI Cabling Work shop and Cabling Installation Expo (Sept. 18-20) will pro vide thousands of cabling professionals the opportunity to meet solution providers, view the latest products and services, plus witness live demonstrations. Co-sponsored by BICSI (www.bicsi.org) and Cabling Installation & Maintenance magazine, this conference will be held at Rhode Island Convention Center, Providence, RI.

At the conference, you can gather information on cabling installation products and services including:

  • Active network equipment;
  • Cable making and labeling equipment;
  • Cable-pulling hardware, tools, and supply devices;
  • Firestopping materials and systems;
  • Installation tools and supplies;
  • Safety equipment;
  • Training/educational tools and supplies;

Industry experts will give presentations on topics important to the cabling professional. The keynote presentation will discuss the market for structured wiring systems in residences. In this presentation, Amanda Finch, editor-in-chief, Electronic House magazine, John Galante, publisher, TecHome Builder, and Jason Knott, editor, Custom Electronics Professional magazine will explore the elements of the residential explosion. You will learn about recent standards. Chris Molloy, RCDD, BICSI Master Instructor, will highlight ANSI/TIA/EIA-570A hierarchical star topology and supporting products. Presenter Donna Ballast, RCDD, BICSI's standards representative and author of the "Ask Donna" column in Cabling Installation & Maintenance magazine, will give you a standards update. If you do not understand the National Electrical Safety Code, Vic Phillips, RCDD, BICSI Master Instructor, will explain. Phillips will also share methodologies and relevant standards for wiring modular furniture.

Jean Caldwell, BICSI marketing manager, will provide marketing tips designed to support your business. If you have thought about going global with your cabling business, a presentation by Chris Molloy will discuss how this may be done.

Installers will benefit from practical demonstrations. Ed Phillips, RCDD, BICSI Master Instructor, brings a firefighter's perspective to the installation of firestopping products. In a hands-on session, Chuck Lohrmann, RCDD, BICSI Master Instructor, and Dusty Rhodes, RCDD, will show you actual cable preparation, splicing, and closure installation, so you can ask questions as the splice is being made.

This inside advice is designed to give you tangible tools and solutions. It is a chance to network among your peers and discuss professional challenges. Also, it is a chance to meet the editorial staff of Cabling Installation & Maintenance magazine.
