Available separately but logically used together are the Intelligent Media Converter 7500 and NetBeacon converter-management software.

The 7500 is a management-ready, chassis-based media converter with an open modular architecture and scalable design. The unit provides a choice of either dynamic-recovery operational mode or network-select operational mode. Dynamic-recovery mode allows the user to add a new level of managed fault resilience and automatic recovery to ensure continuous network connectivity. When the connections are configured in network-select mode, users are able to more efficiently redirect traffic and network access. Dedicated networks can be dynamically created for data backups, network access can be selectively limited, and bandwidth bottlenecks can be eliminated.

The chassis`s scalable design allows the addition of network-management and connectivity options. The chassis also allows network managers to mix and match in any required combination the 7500`s intelligent twister and redundant twister media-conversion modules.

NetBeacon can operate as an independent media-conversion management application or can be integrated with HP OpenView to add local and remote management and control for the 7500 converter. The Java-based graphical user interface allows management of critical points in the network, and NetBeacon offers advanced management statistics, including functional, operation, and environmental data.
