The Smart-Giga Cabling System includes unshielded twisted-pair cable, patch cords, patch panels, and communications outlets. Recent testing performed by Intertek Testing Services (Cortland, NY) showed the Smart-Giga channel demonstrated worst-case attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio performance of 4.45 decibels at 200 megahertz. The system has been developed to support high-speed technologies such as Gigabit Ethernet as well as multimedia applications such as digital video. The manufacturer says that all components have been matched and balanced to deliver peak performance and that the system exceeds Anixter`s (Skokie, IL) Level 7 channel-performance specifications at 200 MHz.
Giga-Jack (pictured) is the newest addition to the Smart- Giga product line. The jack features the option of toolless termination with a protective snap-on cover and also supports termination with a 110-style termination tool. The jack is compatible with a range of standard international faceplates and designed to support both solid and stranded 24- to 26-awg wire.
