USB 2.0 jumper, connector meet IP67 requirements

Feb. 4, 2011
Jumper and connector are part of an IP67 family that also includes receptacles, plugs and protective caps.

Conec has introduced a USB connector, compliant with USB 2.0 specification, that meets IP67 requirements for use in harsh environments.

Like Conec's other water-resistant USB products, this one features internal components housed in black plastic and nickel-plated zinc die-cast with a bayonet locking termination rated to IEC 61076-3-106 specifications. The interface meets IP67 requirements when a mating connector is inserted or when covered with a secure protective cap.

Peter Persico, technical support specialist with Conec, noted, "The expansion of the USB marketplace and continued growth has significantly impacted the packaging and interfaces of USB connectors. In order to address the harsh-environment industry, Conec expanded its IP67 family to include USB connectors that are robust enough to withstand the most extreme environments."

The USB connector contacts are phosphor bronze and gold-plated with a contact resistance rated at a maximum 30 megaOhms and insulation resistance of 500 megaOhms. Operating-termperature range is -40 to +85 deg. Celsius.

The full product line includes panel-mounted receptacles, mating plugs, protective caps and preterminated jumper cables, including jackets suitable for outdoor use.
