Belden unveils SFP+ direct attached cables for data centers

Oct. 10, 2012
New SFP+ cables are billed as an alternative to traditional fiber and twisted-pair copper cabling in top-of-rack and middle-of-rack data center deployments.

Belden has introduced its SFP+ Direct Attached Cables, billed as a cost-effective means to deliver more bandwidth in data centers. Designed to deliver lower power and latency with higher density than competitive products, the company presents the new SFP+ cables as a low-cost alternative to traditional fiber and twisted-pair copper cabling in top-of-rack and middle-of-rack data center deployments.

To meet the most stringent signal transmission performance requirements, the SFP+ direct attached cables are manufactured with Belden's Lightskew series cable, which offers: intra-pair delay skew as low as 10ps/m; silver-plated conductors; aluminum/Mylar foil and tinned copper braiding; and an FT4/CL2-rated PVC jacket. Thoroughly evaluated and 3rd-party tested, the cables' zinc die-cast connectors with easy pull-to-release action are compatible with virtually all SFP+ direct attached-compliant devices.

In addition, because Belden offers the SFP+ direct attached cables in one-foot increments, cable management in high-density applications is significantly simplified, with less slack and easier reconfigurations, contends the company.
