Zhone pushing GPON LAN at October roadshows

New GPON-based LAN technologies may deliver cost savings of up to 92 percent compared to traditional copper, claims Zhone.

Zhone Technologies (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a supplier of FTTx network access technology, will showcase its GPON-based FiberLAN Optical LAN Solution (OLS) products and a new line of multi-port VDSL2 bonded and 30A profile modems at three industry events in October: Gitex (booth #z-32), the Broadband World Forum (booth #E30), and TelcoTV 2012 (booth #909). At the shows, Zhone will demonstrate how enterprise networks can take advantage of its FiberLAN system for 73 percent reduction in capex and up to 84.7 percent increased energy savings, when compared to traditional copper.

To ensure businesses deliver the high-speed connections needed to support access to cloud-based applications and connected devices including an incoming tidal wave of BYOD traffic, enterprise networks may turn to platforms such as Zhone's FiberLAN suite and multi-port VDSL2 lines to help enterprises improve efficiency while providing faster, more reliable network connections.

Zhone presents its FiberLAN is a high-density GPON-based optical lan solution delivering converged, high-speed data, voice and video connectivity, scalable for hotel rooms, bandwidth-demanding desktops and work-stations deployed in offices, rooms, factories or other industrial harsh environments, delivering comprehensive connectivity for any LAN requirement. Enabling converged triple-play services over a single strand of fiber, the solution may reduce enterprise LAN infrastructure cabling and electronics to a fraction of the requirements of a traditional Ethernet LAN solution, contends the company.

Zhone will also launch a new line of multi-port VDSL2 Bonded and 30A Profile Modems. VDSL2 is particularly effective in the Fiber-to-the-Node (FTTN), Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB) and FTTC topology as the service provider reuses existing copper deployed and enables high-speed connectivity to businesses utilizing VDSL2 in the last mile, with fiber being extended to the node, building or curb.
