Mini Category 6 trunk promises decreased cable congestion

CablExpress’s mini Cat 6 bundle has an OD of 0.62 inches, with breakout legs at 0.148 inches apiece.

CablExpress says its new mini Category 6 copper trunk has “a significant reduction in diameter” and therefore “decreases cabling congestion and allows for increased airflow in the data center.” The trunk’s bundle has an outside diameter of 0.62 inches, which the company explains is down from its original 1.2-inch size. The copper breakout legs are 0.148 inches in diameter, reduced from 0.29 inches.

Peter Belyea, president of CablExpress, said, “This product will be very beneficial for those looking to create a well-designed structured cabling system that maximizes space in the data center. While the use of fiber cabling has been steadily increasing to keep up with faster network speeds, copper cabling is still a main component in many data center platforms. We’re excited to offer a copper trunking solution that provides the high performance of Cat 6 with the manageability of a slimmer design.”

The trunk features options for either even or staggered breakouts to reduce excess cable; trunk and breakout lengths are customizable. CablExpress explains the trunk’s design “directly integrates with the recommended TIA-942 structured cabling standard,” and that the cabling is factory-terminated and -tested.

mini Cat 6 patch cords are also available.
