Berk-Tek Leviton unveils end-to-end fiber-optic cabling system for data centers

Joint cable, connectivity solution reduces pathway fill, raises patching density.

Berk-Tek Leviton Technologies has announced a new end-to-end fiber-optic cabling system for data center networks. The system combines Berk-Tek’s Micro Data Center Plenum (MDP) cable with the Leviton Opt-X HD Enclosure System. According to the company, the combined solution reduces pathway fill, improves airflow, and enables dramatically higher patching density in racks and cabinets.

“The Opt-X HD Enclosures provide 33 percent more patching density over typical enclosures when using LC connectors, and up to 50 percent when using MTP connectors,” asserts Tony Yuen, Leviton's Network Solutions Senior Product Manager, Fiber. “The system also enables simple and cost-effective migration path to 40-GbE and 100-GbE networks.”

“Berk-Tek's MDP cable, when combined with MTP connectors, provides the highest-density backbone connectivity available for data centers and SAN installations,” adds Mike Connaughton, RCDD, Data Center Market Segment Manager at Berk-Tek. “The patented MDP cable has the smallest outside diameter in the industry.”

Berk-Tek Leviton Technologies notes that it supports all data center systems with collaborative R&D teams and an extensive network of strategic account managers, specification engineers, data center specialists and manufacturers’ representatives.
