The Fiber Optics Technology Consortium (FOTC) of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), formerly known as the TIA Fiber Optics LAN Section, recently elected its 2013 officers. Rodney Casteel of CommScope will serve his sixth consecutive term as the organization’s chair. Alfred Flores of Berk-Tek is vice chair; Pete Pondillo of Corning is standards chair; Dave Cook of 3M is membership chair; and Paul Neveux of Superior Essex is communications chair.
Casteel commented, “This is a very exciting time in the industry. Fiber use is extending well beyond the LAN into campus environments, data centers and other applications. I’m honored to be chairing this group as we transition into our expanded role and work to educate a broader audience about technology that has proven advantages in so many areas. As a group our members bring together an amazing body of knowledge. It’s very powerful to have representatives from different companies present a unified fiber message.”
FOTC added that among its most popular programs is its free webinar series, at which participants can earn continuing education credits toward BICSI ITS credentials. Casteel said, “It’s a great way for our members to offer training, information and guidance to interested people worldwide like network designers, consultants, engineers, technicians and end users who need the most current standards-based information.”
The FOTC webinars are also available on-demand. The next scheduled live event will take place February 28. Delivered by Fluke Networks’ Adrian Young, the webinar will address how to evaluate fiber-optic test results.
