Pioneer joins HDBaseT Alliance

Jan. 8, 2013
Pioneer Electronics has joined the HDBaseT Alliance.

At this week's 2013 International CES in Las Vegas, it was announced that, in order to integrate HDBaseT technology into its home consumer audio and video products, Pioneer Electronics has joined the HDBaseT Alliance.

“HDBaseT represents the next significant step in the evolution of the home theater system," comments Chris Walker, director of AV product planning and marketing for the Home Electronics Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Integrating the technology into our products will make setup and control of even the most complex home theater systems faster and easier."

HDBaseT technology enables the delivery of uncompressed high definition video, audio, Internet, controls and power over a single Cat 5e/6 LAN cable. As noted by HDBaseT Alliance, in a home theater environment, HDBaseT can connect all entertainment devices in a setting through the technology's "5Play feature set," converging uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, up to 100W of power and various control signals through a single 100 m/328 ft Cat 5e/6 cable with RJ45 connectors.

“HDBaseT has been embraced by professional AV installers worldwide, which is creating demand from consumers for broader availability,” comments Micha Risling, marketing chair for the HDBaseT Alliance. “Having Pioneer join the HDBaseT Alliance will help us meet that growing demand in 2013.”

Founded by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valens Semiconductor, the HDBaseT Alliance and its member companies are working to further the technology as a global standard for advanced digital media distribution. The cross-industry alliance promotes and provides a technical standard for HDBaseT technology for the distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content.
