Technology Convergence Conference brings IT, facilities, data center professionals together

Jan. 7, 2013
The one-day conference has grown its focus but remains an end-user-to-end-user peer-learning experience.

The Technology Convergence Conference, established and still administered by converging-technologies consultancy Teladata, will hold its 2013 event on Thursday, February 7 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Teladata describes the event as “a one-day educational conference where IT, facilities and data center professionals and executives come together to learn from each other in a unique collaborative setting.”

The organizers also explain, “Our track sessions are designed for end-users by end-users to encourage peer-to-peer discussion of their successes, missteps, strategies, best practices and the future of technologies that most interest them.”

This year’s conference will be broken into three tracks: Data Center Case Studies, Trending Industry Topics and Emerging Technologies. Among presentations to be made in the Trending Industry Topics track will be “To Cloud or Not to Cloud? That is the Question,” “Navigating the DCIM Space: End-User Panel Discussion,” and “Cloud Computing Legal Risks” along with others. The Emerging Technologies track will include sessions titled “Building-wide Applications of People-centric Data: Benefits of Responsive Buildings,” “The Promise of Technology vs. The Reality,” and “Mobile Technologies Disrupting Your Facility,” along with others.

The Data Center Case Studies track “will focus on data center lifecycle case studies and provide insight into environmental and operational challenges and successes,” the conference’s organizers explain. “The track will highlight the end-user’s experience on initiatives to achieve common data center goals and best practices through power and capacity management, restoring legacy data centers, and monitoring.”

Sessions scheduled for the Data Center Case Studies track include the following.

  • Tackling Legacy Data Center Challenges
  • Managing Power in a Hyper-growth Environment
  • There is Hope! How to Extend the Life of Your Existing Data Center
  • How Shands Healthcare Saved 50 Percent in Asset Tracking Efficiency
  • eBay’s New Data Center Metrics

Kyle Brown, technical documentation manager at Teladata, will moderate the “Tacking Legacy Data Center Challenges” panel. Brown comments, “The network and data center have become the lifeblood of doing business in the modern age. Converging technologies are changing businesses quicker than at any point in human existence and our industry is at the forefront. Learning as much as you can about how to leverage these innovations will enable your business to prosper.”

Before the conference breaks into the separate tracks, all attendees will hear keynoter Philip Ross, chief executive officer of Unwired and Unwork.com deliver his address, “Emerging Technologies and the Future Workplace.”
